Elementary Summer Assistance Program

The Francis Howell School District will be providing an elementary intervention program designed for students in need of additional reading assistance.  Students will be identified based on their AIMSweb reading scores and then invited to participate in the program. Enrollment is limited. Letters inviting students to the summer program will be mailed on April 9, 2013. Enrollment forms should be returned upon receiving as soon as possible.

This program runs June 10 – June 28, 2013.

Elementary bus routes will be developed once enrollments have been received.

The Summer Assistance Program will be held at both Independence and Harvest Ridge Elementary. 

Harvest Ridge-Late - 9:15 AM – 3:45 PM
Independence-Early - 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Each school will hold their own open house. Students attend the Open House of the school in which they are enrolled.


Elementary Transportation
Routes will be posted prior to the beginning of the program and can also be picked up at the Open House.


Middle School Credit Recovery

Students in grades 6-7-8 may need to attend the Middle School Credit Recovery program.  If this is necessary, parents/students will be contacted through their schools. 

Each week a different content area will be held:
Session 1 – Mathematics – June 3 – 7, 2013
Session 2 – Communication Arts – June 10 - 14, 2013
Session 3 – Science – June 17 – 21, 2013
Session 4 – Social Studies – June 24 – 28, 2013

Francis Howell High School will be the location of the program this summer. 

All sessions start at 8:00 AM and end at 2:30 PM.

Transportation will be provided but must be requested on the enrollment form.

Enrollment dates for Middle School Credit Recovery begin April 2, 2013 and end May 24, 2013, for Math and Communication Arts and end on June 7, 2013 for Science and Social Studies.

High School Credit Recovery

High School students in need of recovering credits may begin enrolling for this summer’s sessions beginning April 2, 2013 and ending May 17, 2013 for Session 1 and June 7, 2013 for Session 2. 

Session 1 – June 3 – June 14, 2013
AM Session – 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
PM Session – 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Session 2 – June 17 – 28, 2013
8:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Francis Howell High School will be the location of the program this summer.

Transportation will be provided, but must be requested by filling out the Transportation Request Form contained in the information packet and returned prior to the registration deadline.

High School Credit Enrichment

Students completing grades 8 – 11 may enroll in credit enrichment classes to earn up to 1 credit.

AM Session – 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
PM Session – 11:30 AM– 2:30 PM

Registration opens on April 2, 2013 and closes on May 17, 2013.

Transportation will be provided but must be requested by filling out the Transportation Request Form contained in the information packet and returned prior to the registration deadline.

Transportation can only be provided at the beginning of the school day and at the end of the day.  No bus service will be provided at the mid-day break in the schedule.

STEM Camps (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

Grades 3-4-5
The Francis Howell School District is continuing the summer STEM Camps for students in grades 3-4-5.  Students with a high level of interest in the areas of Science, Math, and computers/technology are encouraged to apply.

The program will consist of a four day camp that will be hands-on, activity-based learning and fun.  LEGO Mindstorm Robotics kits will be a large part of the program in addition to units of study designed to pique the interest of the students.

There is no cost to students.  Transportation is not provided to this four day camp.

The camp will be the same program at each site.

Henderson Elementary  Session 1: June 24 – 27, 2013
Henderson Elementary Session 2: July 8 – 11, 2013
Independence Elementary Session 3: July 15 – 18, 2013
Warren Elementary Session 4: July 22 – 25, 2013

All camps run from 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

Enrollments will be online this year and will be based on the date and time received. Additional information will be sent home with students and advertised in the District eNEWS.


Transportation is not provided for students enrolled in the STEM Camps.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch with them daily for the STEM Camps.

Enrollment for the grade 3-4-5 STEM camp began April 10, 2013 at 9:00 AM.

           

 

Enrollment for the Elementary School STEM Camps is now closed. Enrollments received have exceeded the number of seats available. Those students who enrolled online will be contacted as to their enrollment status of enrolled for the camp or on the waiting list for possible placement.

 

 


Project Lead the Way (PLTW) STEM Camps
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

Grades 6-7-8
The Francis Howell School District will be continuing the middle school STEM Camps for students finishing grades 6-7-8.  Students with a strong interest in Science, Math, and Technology are encouraged to consider attending.

Enrollments will be on-line this year and will be based on the date and time received.   Additional information will be sent home with students and advertised in the District eNEWS.

Each camp will hold the same program and is designed so that students will enroll in the site that they will attend once they reach ninth grade:

June 10 – 14, 2013 (Francis Howell High School)
June 17 – 21, 2013 (All three high schools)

All camps run from 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

There is no cost to attend.  Transportation is not provided for this camp.

Curriculum of the camp has been created by Gateway to Technology, the middle school curriculum that leads into the high school Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program. The teachers for the program are current District high school PLTW teachers.


Transportation is not provided for students enrolled in the STEM Camps.
