A mutually beneficial land transfer was completed today, July 1.

Officials from the City of St. Peters approached the District earlier this year about purchasing land they’ve been leasing from the District since 2008 for use as a city park. The City made considerable improvements to the property during that time. The 14-acre tract is located on Central School Road, adjacent to Hollenbeck Middle School in St. Peters.

“Our residents have enjoyed use of this land for many years,” said Russ Batzel, City Administrator for the City of St. Peters.  Batzel said he is grateful that the District agreed to sell the land to the City. “Over the years of the lease, the City has constructed a playground, a pavilion, restroom facilities and parking improvements for this park. Before considering other improvements, the City wanted to own the land,” he said.

The City paid $432,733 for the 14-acre parcel. Per state statute, proceeds from the sale will go into the District’s capital projects fund.

“This is a wonderful example of intergovernmental cooperation,” said the District’s outgoing Chief Operating Officer Kevin Supple. “We are grateful to the City of St. Peters for their longstanding partnership. Our Hollenbeck families and neighboring residents will be able to enjoy this community park for years to come.”
