The Francis Howell School District announced today that it will partner with the St. Charles County Veterans Museum to bring the stories of local veterans to life.
In partnership with museum staff, student volunteers will help interview local veterans for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project (VHP). Created in 2000, VHP’s purpose is to collect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of America’s wartime veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand their selfless service.
The volunteer program is open to high school students who are 15 years or older. Aspiring journalists and authors, student leaders, history buffs and all others interested in serving the local community in a meaningful way are encouraged to complete the District’s interest form. Training will be provided for those selected to conduct interviews. Additional opportunities to support video production and social media efforts for the museum are available.
Located at 410 E. Elm Street in O’Fallon, the St. Charles County Veterans Museum opened in 2019 and exists to honor the members of local veterans who served their country with patriotic valor. The museum features an array of information, stories and artifacts about local veterans, along with outdoor exhibits and memorials in a park-like setting that the whole community can enjoy.
