Francis Howell School District’s Dr. Suzy Zerr, instructional coach at Harvest Ridge Elementary and District teacher of the year, was also named among the ten St. Louis Region 2021 Teacher of the Year honorees by the St. Louis Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC) and EducationPlus.

“Suzy leads with her heart and puts the needs of students and staff first,” said Dr. Natalie Deweese, Harvest Ridge principal. “She listens deeply to teachers and follows up quickly with coaching and resources to support their learning and their students. As a learner herself, she is always reading and researching to not only help herself grow, but to also provide new learning and resources to staff.”

The Teacher of the Year program recognizes and honors the contributions of the classroom teacher as no one has a greater impact on the education of a child than a teacher who creates a learning environment where children flourish and grow.

The mission of the Missouri Teacher of the Year program is to honor, promote and celebrate excellence in the teaching profession.

Regional honorees will submit their applications to the Missouri State Teacher of the Year program. The Department of Secondary and Elementary Education (DESE) will then select a Missouri Teacher of the Year in October 2021. The Missouri Teacher of the Year will automatically become a candidate for the National Teacher of the Year honor.

Dr. Zerr will be honored July 19 at a banquet along with her peers, school administrators and family members.

Missouri began participating in the national awards program in 1957. For additional information regarding the Missouri Teacher of the Year program, visit the DESE website at dese.mo.gov
