National School Lunch Week

More than 30 million children eat lunch at public schools every day. Join the Francis Howell School District in celebrating National School Lunch Week Oct. 21-25, 2019. The theme this year, School Lunch: What’s on Your Playlist,” spotlights how today’s school cafeterias are serving up healthy menu items that kids want to eat, with increased choice and customization.

“School lunches are healthier than ever, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” said Cindy Reilmann, Director of Finance. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program and the appealing choices we offer.”

Research shows that good nutrition enables students to meet their educational and physical potential. However, it's the people in the foodservice program that make this possible. FHSD is proud to partner with Sodexo to provide the students of our District with proper nutrition, clean facilities, and friendly support.

The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students during the school week.
The program, which has been serving the nation's children for over 60 years, requires school meals to meet federal nutrition standards, which includes offering fruits and vegetables every day, serving whole-grain rich foods and limiting fat, calories, and sodium.
