Students with Exceptional Gifted Abilities (SEGA)

SEGA Program Description
The aim of the SEGA (Students with Exceptional Gifted Abilities) program is to provide a challenging and rigorous curriculum for the exceptionally gifted learner in grades 2 through 8. The Francis Howell School District recognizes that these students require a rigorous academic curriculum and educational experiences, as well as attention to social and emotional needs above and beyond that of the regular gifted education program. Participation in the SEGA program allows students to achieve at a level compatible with their abilities and interests while maintaining interaction with an appropriate peer group.

SEGA Curriculum Focus
The exceptionally gifted student possesses unique potential and needs, which can only be addressed through modification of the regular curriculum. The goal of the SEGA program is to proceed through the grade level’s curriculum at a faster pace and deeper level than that which would occur in a regular classroom. The SEGA program follows the curriculum objectives approved by the Francis Howell School District in all of the core academic areas. The SEGA program removes the ceiling at each grade level, which allows for acceleration opportunities.
