FHSD to offer Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Kids

Through the end of the calendar year, FHSD will offer free meals to all kids in the community, regardless of income or enrollment in the District. With new authority provided by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, the USDA will allow FHSD to feed all children in the community under the age of 18 through as late as June 30, 2021.

As of Oct. 1, 2020, free breakfast and lunch is being offered to all children under the age of 18 living in the area. These meals will meet USDA nutritional requirements. Any funds in student meal accounts will remain there until meal purchases resume in the future, unless the funds are used to purchase ala carte foods (e.g. bagged chips, cookies, etc.).

In-person students will not be charged for breakfast and lunch meals picked up in the school cafeteria at the designated meal times. However, any ala carte purchases (items such as bagged chips, cookies, etc.) will be charged at the approved rate. For virtual students enrolled in the District and unenrolled children under the age of 18, meal kit boxes will be available containing the food to make five breakfast and five lunch USDA-qualifying meals. Meal kit boxes are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are distributed on Tuesdays between 10:00 and 11:30 AM, for each week that school is in session. Meal kit boxes can be picked up for all students in the family at one time at the Burbes Service Center, located at 4606 Central School Road in St. Charles. FHSD families, who qualify for free or reduced lunch and have extenuating circumstances that hinders their ability to pick up meal boxes, delivery can be requested. For these deliveries, an adult must be present to receive the delivered food.

Free meals will continue through June 30, 2021, or as funding allows. Families with questions or comments about the program, please call 636-851-6197.
