Nineteen FHSD Students Named National Merit Commended Scholars and Semifinalists

A total of 19 Francis Howell School District (FHSD) students have been recognized for their academic achievement by being named National Merit Commended Scholars and National Merit Semi-Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). NMSC announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists during their annual event in September, and these high achievers now have the opportunity to move on in the competition for a chance to receive one of 7,500 scholarships, totaling more than $33 million, which will be offered to the winners next spring.  more

FHSD Schools Celebrate National Red Ribbon Week

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) will be dipped in red the week of Oct. 24-28, as schools across the District and the nation celebrate Red Ribbon Week, an event dedicated to raising awareness for alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence prevention. Many FHSD schools will educate students on drug prevention with special events, activities and fun-themed spirit days.  more

Fifteen public high school students were recently named state officers for the Missouri Association of DECA, the international association of students studying marketing, finance, hospitality and management. And two of those, Shaneerah Woodruff and Kevin Welch, are from the Francis Howell School District (FHSD).   more

Angel Ikeda may already be a star to the Francis Howell Central (FHC) High School community, but on Oct. 15 her stardom was shared with a much larger community. During The St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame annual awards banquet, Ikeda was announced as one of four students in the metro area to receive prestigious recognition as a St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame “Future Star.”   more

Every month during the school year, the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) Board of Education welcomes the best and brightest students the community has to offer to their meetings. At the October meeting, Francis Howell High School (FHHS) senior Leah Amos represented the student body. FHHS Principal Dr. Dave Wedlock had the pleasure of announcing her as the student representative to the Board, and the only problem he had was choosing an adjective to describe her… so he chose many.   more

The FHSD community now has further proof that our teachers are the best in their field, because they promote both professional excellence, and also excellence in their students and the staff around them. Barnwell Teacher Heather Tomicich Wins GAM Outstanding Educator Award

Gifted students deserve a gifted teacher, and that’s exactly what Barnwell Middle School, part of the Francis Howell School District, has to offer. Heather Tomicich, a Barnwell teacher, won the Delma Johnson Outstanding Educator of the Gifted Award at the Gifted Association of Missouri (GAM) Conference in October. What makes this award even more special is that nominations come from former students and parents, showing a teacher’s true impact on the child’s education.   more

For a decade, Becky-David Elementary has been participating in and celebrating the “rainbow of abilities” present within its school community, as well as the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) Community, during their Abilities Awareness Week. Staff and students put on several events and celebrations, and invited guests to speak about the abilities they had to overcome. It’s a celebration of life as most of us don’t know it. And with a little bit of added awareness, the week of activities gives attendees a better understanding of disabilities, and how we can help.  more

The City of O’Fallon hosts an annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet, where they honor those who unselfishly give up their free time to help improve the community. But there was one awardee who was conspicuously missing – Harsha Bollepalli of Francis Howell High School (FHHS). His name was announced as the winner of the 2016 Youth Leadership Award, but Bollepalli wasn’t there. You may be able to guess what he was doing – volunteering his time somewhere else.  more

All we need is an opportunity to succeed. Athletes play the game for the thrill of victory, but not everyone gets that chance. The Francis Howell Special Olympics (FHSO) wants to make sure that no one gets left in the crowd, no matter their ability or experience with sports. And on Oct. 1, groups of thrilled athletes came to Francis Howell North (FHN) High School fields for a Special Olympics softball tournament.   more

New FHSD Safety Measures Include Unannounced Intruder Drills

Student safety is always a top priority of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD). The District annually conducts a variety of safety drills including fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder drills. Participation in these safety drills is where most students get directly involved in their own safety. New this year, FHSD will conduct one unannounced intruder drill at each of our schools.   more

FHSD 2016 MAP Scores are Top 5% in Missouri

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has released the 2016 Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) scores for all 518 school districts across the state. These scores include student achievement in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The MAP Performance Index (MPI) is a single composite number that represents the MAP assessment performance of every student by awarding points to each student based on the four achievement levels (advanced, proficient, basic, and below basic).  more
