The Francis Howell School District has once again been recognized by The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for excellence in budget presentation with the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for the 2019–2020 budget year. This is the fourteenth consecutive year the District has received this prestigious award.

The MBA designation is the result of an objective external evaluation of the overall management and communication of the school district’s budget. Awarded budget documents must be accurate and easy to read. By clearly conveying the District’s goals and objectives, the budget document helps build credibility and trust within the community. Reviewer comments help districts continually improve their budget presentation, which is one reason districts apply each year.

To receive this distinguished honor, the District had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. It is bestowed only to school districts whose budgets have undergone a rigorous review by financial professionals and which have met or exceeded the program’s stringent criteria.

“In Francis Howell, we take great pride in being responsible stewards of our local resources,” said Superintendent Dr. Mary Hendricks-Harris. “The recognition for the Meritorious Budget Award is possible because of the work of our entire Finance Department. Our Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Supple, is a champion for public education and fiscal responsibility. This award is a positive reflection on his team and the work they do every day in support of our students and our community.”

A district’s story, told through the pages of the annual budget, helps stakeholders understand the specific challenges behind each financial decision business officials make to keep their district functioning smoothly. The MBA award recognizes districts that have made it clear they want students at the center of their fiscal plan and vision.

“We are very honored to be once again named a recipient of the Meritorious Budget Award,” said FHSD’s Chief Operating Officer Kevin Supple. “This award is a well-deserved representation of the hard work and commitment of our Finance Department personnel to implement the high-quality budgeting standards outlined in the MBA program.”

“Our team has worked very hard to create a comprehensible budget that ensures trust with our taxpayers, parents, and staff as well as maintains the stellar standards of accountability that our Finance Department consistently produces,” said Supple. “We are committed to keeping the District successful by responsibly managing the numerous budgets and carefully overseeing the school system’s financial performance.”
