FHSD Celebrates School Nurse Day

As our world faces a global pandemic, we rely on and appreciate those working in the medical field more than ever. Whether in a hospital or school setting, medical professionals have continuously protected and cared for our communities and loved ones. In honor of School Nurse Day, FHSD would like to recognize our wonderful school nurses for their dedication to our students’ health and wellness.

One of the main goals of a school nurse is to foster the educational success of our students. They help identify and treat illnesses and conditions that hinder student attendance and collaborate with physicians, families, and school personnel to help those with chronic conditions stay in school. “I love being able to use my skills and strengths to better the lives of children,” said Sherri Himich, school nurse at Fairmount.

Even during the COVID closure, our school nurses have been available virtually to provide support for students. Eventually, students will return to in-person education, and these medical warriors will be at the forefront of that transition providing students with reassurance and the tools they need to stay safe and healthy. Even from afar, Himich reminds her Fairmount community, “We are in this together, and together we will care for each other.”

As we celebrate School Nurse Day, please join FHSD in thanking these amazing medical professionals for their care and support so that students can focus their attention on fulfilling their biggest dreams!
