FHSD Schools Now Closed Through April 24

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff:

In collaboration with the St. Charles County Department of Public Health, Francis Howell and all St. Charles County school districts made the decision to continue our school closure through Friday, April 24, to do our part in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The superintendents will remain in close contact with health officials and will reconvene before that date to reassess the situation. This extended closure includes all FHSD schools, preschool, and Vacation Station. During the closure, all athletic and activity events are canceled. FHSD facilities will also be unavailable for community use.

The decision to extend the closure of our District was extremely difficult but was made to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our students, staff, and community. We understand that extending the closure of our schools will have a significant impact on our families, but we also believe this action must be taken to reduce the spread of this disease and protect lives. We can work together to protect each other and slow the progression of COVID-19.

All previous District COVID-19 communications are linked on the District Coronavirus Updates and Resources landing page. Resources include informational links to the CDC, MDHSS, and the County Department of Public Health. Learning resources include the FHSD Digital Learning Resource Guide. During the closure, FHSD and Sodexo will continue to provide meal assistance to our families in need. More details can be found on our website at www.fhsdschools.org/mealassistance.

Our teachers have done amazing work to transform their exciting and engaging lessons for classroom experiences into lessons that translate to e-learning. That is a significant jump, and we cannot emphasize enough how very proud we are of the work they are doing. The District will send out information about Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI), including packets and online classes on Monday, March 30.

Please continue to practice good hygiene and social distancing measures. Contact the St. Charles County Health Department or your primary care physician should you have any COVID-19 symptoms.

We are grateful for your continued patience and understanding as we work through this unprecedented time. Thank you for joining together to support each other and our students.

Thank you,

Dr. Mary Hendricks-Harris, Superintendent

Francis Howell School District
