Last week, many Francis Howell School District (FHSD) nurses received the COVID-19 vaccine – and were among the first of the District’s staff to do so.

“This gives me hope that we are closer to ending this tragic pandemic,” said Angela Haile, Warren Elementary nurse. “If it helps save even one person’s life, then it will be all worth it. I hope that my kids can have a safe and normal life. I just want to be able to hug my family and friends again.”

Nurses were first in line for the District, as the St. Charles County Department of Public Health (SCCDPH) allocated a portion of its first shipment of Moderna vaccines for St. Charles County school nurses with the Phase 1A rollout.

“This is a monumental moment,” said Dr. Will Vanderpool, FHSD director of alternative learning.

Most of the remaining school personnel will be included in Phase1B of vaccine deployment. While the District does not have an exact timeline, its administration is working closely with the SCCPH to ensure FHSD staff have access to the vaccine just as soon as it become available.
