In honor of School Bus Driver Day, FHSD would like to celebrate our valuable employees who safely transport our students to and from school each day. While our students are currently unable to greet our bus drivers each day due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we can still give a shout out to our transportation staff and thank them for their service.

For bus drivers, such as Cheryl Jett, transporting students is more than just a job. Jett has been a bus driver with the District for 42 years and has kept the same route that entire time. She has driven countless students and cared for multiple generations. “The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the kids grow up, get married, and have kids of their own. Now those kids ride my bus,” said Jett.

Bus driver Tammy Smith looks forward to seeing the students each day. “The kids wouldn’t necessarily get to school without us, so I enjoy what I do.” Smith was recently named the 2020 Support Staff Employee of the Year at the Transportation Annex for her dedication to the District.

“The commitment, compassion, and professionalism of our bus drivers and monitors create a positive impact on our students’ lives each day,” said Director of Transportation Jennifer Simpson. “We are blessed to be transporting the most precious cargo in St. Charles County.”

Jett expressed how many bus drivers, including herself, refer to the students as “their kids.” “Bus drivers really care about the students, which helps parents and the community know their kids are in safe hands when they ride the bus,” said Jett. As we celebrate School Bus Driver Day, please join FHSD in thanking our amazing transportation employees for all that they do for our students and our community!
