On Saturday, March 2, principals, administrative staff, and more gathered behind their respective tables lined with spirited décor, information pamphlets, and candy, as they welcomed potential candidates to this year’s Meet FHSD event. The annual event provides candidates with an opportunity to get to know more about the District and our staff.

The morning began with a presentation by the District’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Lisa Simpkins, who shared general information about FHSD. “The presentation was awesome,” said attendee Aleisha Tutterow. “You have so many different questions going into a new District. It was nice how it was all laid out and answered so many questions that you didn’t even know you had.”

While waiting in line to speak with staff members, many candidates shared their impressions of Meet FHSD:

Angie Woodson mentioned how her college classes exposed her to opportunities in FHSD’s elementary schools. “I absolutely loved the culture in those buildings…I think it is an amazing and growing school district that continues to surpass expectations of the community and everyone involved.”

Meet FHSD attendeesAleisha Tutterow shared how the District supported her husband, who worked as a paraprofessional at Independence Elementary for over ten years. They encouraged him to step out of his comfort zone and go back to school for his certification. Her husband is now a teacher. “It was nice, even though they knew they were going to lose him, to encourage him to grow himself,” said Tutterow. “That support makes you want to be with people like that.”

Morgan Smith, a substitute teacher, commented on how welcoming each of the buildings are in the District. “It doesn’t matter what school I go into or how many times I’ve been there. They are always there to makes sure my day goes smoothly when I sub. I can only imagine what it is like to be working there and to be an employee.”

Meet FHSD attendeesKate Eberhard, an instructional para at Daniel Boone Elementary, shared her excitement and desire to grow in the District. “It’s a place where you don’t ever want to leave. You just want to expand within the District. I’m really excited to see where my life takes me in Francis Howell.”

While Meet FHSD is a one-day event, our stories with some of the potential teaching candidates are just beginning...
