 | Bryan Teacher Aaron Pearson Wins National LifeChanger of the Year Award Posted on 03/28/2019 Bryan Middle School teacher Aaron Pearson has been named a 2018-19 LifeChanger Award winner by the National Life Group. A Spectra teacher who works with students in the District’s gifted program, Pearson was presented with the award at a surprise school-wide assembly. “This award means a lot to me,” said Pearson, an FHC alumni. “It was great having my students, former students, and family all here. Hearing how I’ve impacted them just makes it all worthwhile, it’s why I do what I do. I love my job and my students, it just brings a big smile to my face.” The award includes a $1,500 individual cash award and a $1,500 donation to the school from National Life Group.

 | Saeger Middle School Wins Word UP Challenge MVP Award Posted on 03/28/2019 The students at Saeger Middle School have spent the past six months adventuring through stories, hurdling over difficult words, and reading their way to the back covers of many, many books. As part of the school’s reading goal and the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s (HMH) Reading Counts! Word UP Challenge, the students were encouraged to read four books each quarter, a total of sixteen books for the year. The challenge tracked the number of words read by the students from early September to mid-February. The more words, the more points they earned for their school. This year, the Saeger students read a total of 9,799,356 words earning them the MVP Award – the second place prize for the Word UP Challenge!

 | Daniel Boone Elementary Hosts “Dream Big STEAM Challenge Day” Posted on 03/20/2019 “One more cup! We can do one more cup!” Those words echoed across the fifth grade classroom at Daniel Boone Elementary as students worked on a cup stacking challenge during Dream Big STEAM Challenge Day. The students worked together in teams to build the tallest tower they could out of solo cups. The exciting competition between students was just one of many Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) activities planned for the day.

 | Different Abilities Highlighted During Abilities Awareness Week Posted on 03/19/2019 Throughout FHSD, educators are helping share the mindset that different abilities aren’t disabilities. Students learn that just because someone may do something differently or at a different pace than you do, doesn’t mean that they can’t do it at all. To help further facilitate this mindset, Independence Elementary School hosted Abilities Awareness Week.

 | Twenty FHSD Students Place in MO Tri-County Science Fair Posted on 03/13/2019 FHSD students recently had the opportunity to participate in the Missouri Tri-County Regional Science and Engineering Fair and compete against other schools from St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren counties. After choosing and researching their topics, students analyzed their data, formulated a hypothesis, and created displays to share during the science fair.

 | Francis Howell Students Excel in SkillsUSA District Competition Posted on 03/12/2019 Twenty-five FHSD students from the Lewis & Clark Career Center have earned the right to compete at the SkillsUSA Missouri State Leadership and Skills Conference in April. Competing recently at the District level, students from FHHS, FHC, and FHN earned a total of nine gold medals. The students were competing in a variety of technical, hands-on, written, and oral categories that relate directly to their program of study at Lewis & Clark.

 | FHSD High Schools Recognized as “PLTW Distinguished Schools” for 2018-19 Posted on 03/07/2019 The Francis Howell School District is proud to announce that Francis Howell High School, Francis Howell Central High School, and Francis Howell North High School have all been named Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished Schools for 2018-19. The three FHSD high schools are among only 12 high schools in Missouri to receive this Distinction for 2018-19, and among only 50 high schools in the nation to be recognized for two consecutive years.

 | Castlio STEM Day Posted on 03/01/2019 STEM night at Castlio Elementary was a great annual tradition – until this year. It didn’t go away, it just shed its nocturnal cloak and stepped into the light of day. “Traditionally in years past we did a STEM night,” said Principal Tim Scholle. “But this year we put a new spin on it because we wanted to give every K-5 student that opportunity to have the experience of those hands-on activities.” And every student did, at stations that ranged from coding Sphero robots to creating simple circuit boards.
