The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) has announced the hiring of Dr. Cheri Oliver as the principal of Fairmount Elementary School, effective July 1, 2017. Dr. Oliver will contribute to student learning, as well as staff and school improvement, using her knowledge and experience as a successful instructional leader.
“I am honored to be joining the Fairmount family,” Dr. Oliver said. “I am looking forward to meeting and working with all of the students, families, and staff. Francis Howell School District has a reputation of excellence in education, and I am eager to be a part of such greatness.”
Dr. Oliver’s dedication to education began as an elementary teacher in the Rockwood School District and City of St. Charles School District. As a teacher, she took on many leadership opportunities, including serving as both a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and Technology Building Leader. As a teacher, she also gained valuable experience working with parent groups as a teacher liaison.
After serving as an administrative intern at Pond Elementary in Rockwood, Dr. Oliver was named the Assistant Director of Early Childhood Education at the Rockwood Early Childhood Center, facilitating a positive learning and teaching environment. There she learned more about what it took to be a principal, helping select new hires and leading professional development for staff.
Dr. Oliver was then named Assistant Principal at Rebecca Boone Elementary in the Warren County R-III School District. She added many more skills to her repertoire, working on school improvement goals and data assessment for her building, developing curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade, and planning and implementing school events for students, families, and staff.
Because of Dr. Oliver’s diligence and leadership, she was promoted to principal at Rebecca Boone Elementary, and her building was recognized as a Gold Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. Under her leadership, the school scored above the state average in MAP Math and ELA (Grades 3-5) for the first time in school history. Dr. Oliver’s implementation of HomeWorks, a home visit program, also increased parental involvement and student achievement.
Through Lindenwood University (LU), Dr. Oliver earned her doctorate, specialist’s degree, and master’s degree in educational administration. She also earned her bachelor’s in elementary education from LU.
Dr. Oliver will be replacing the current principal at Fairmount, Dr. Sue Sharp, who is retiring on June 30, 2017.
A welcome reception for Dr. Oliver will be held on Monday, March 27, from 6:30 – 8 PM in Fairmount’s cafeteria. The reception will be informal, and will offer the staff and community an opportunity to meet Dr. Oliver.
