The Francis Howell School District (FHSD), in partnership with the Midwest Recycling Center, will be hosting a community-wide appliance and electronics recycling event on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the FHSD Burbes Service Center located at 4606 Central School Road in St. Charles.
FHSD and St. Charles County residents are encouraged to bring their broken or old electronics and appliances for disposal. Acceptable items include:
- Air Conditioners
- Answering Machines
- Cell Phones
- Computer Monitors*
- DVD Players
- Fax Machines
- Gaming Systems
- Hair Dryers
- Hard Drives**
- Kitchen Appliances
- Lawn equipment***
- Power Tools
- Satellite Receivers
- Vacuum Cleaners
- Wash Machines
- Water Heaters
Exceptions: Items that cannot be accepted include smoke detectors, glass lamps, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, alkaline batteries, VHS tapes, data tapes, floppy disks, thermostats, exit signs, or capacitors or ballasts that are not clearly marked as saying “No PCBs.” No medical waste; no gas containers such as Freon, Oxygen, or Nitros Oxide; No broken or leaking ink or toner cartridges; broken CRTs TVs and monitors; or anything leaking oil or acid.
**$5 disposal fee for CRT Monitors.
**Hard drives are wiped or destroyed. A $5 fee is charged if a certificate of destruction is required.
***Lawn and garden equipment must have oil and gas emptied.
****There is a charge for the disposal of televisions, $20 for TVs up to 27", $40 for TVs over 27", $50 for any size rear-projection or console TVs, and $5 LED/LCD/Plasma TVs.
This event is open to the Francis Howell community, St. Charles residents and non-residents, all schools, churches and businesses. Midwest Recycling is registered with the EPA and is Level 4 Certified with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Midwest Recycling has a zero landfill policy.
